We've selected the short-listed Social Enterprises for the Social Impact Accelerator and as part of the selection process, these SEs go through the Pitching Round, they present their social enterprises to the panel of judges. We invited industry experts from the startup community with expertise in areas like investment and finance, social impact, and the local ecosystem. Here is the list of the judges for the Pitching Round of the Social Impact Accelerator.
CREATIVE DIRECTOR, SMARTER GOOD
Carl Javier worked various positions in Smarter Good for three years, where he provided strategic thinking, writing, and editorial guidance for clients making impact globally. His background is in journalism and creative writing. He started writing for newspapers and magazines as a college freshman, and has been contributing to publications regularly for almost two decades. His work as a writer led to involvement in the publishing industry, as a business manager of the UST Publishing House and then the University of the Philippines Press, as well as initiatives in independent publishing. His most recent publishing accomplishments were through his work as Managing Editor of Anino Comics, which he helped to relaunch in 2014. Since the relaunch Anino titles have won National Book Awards, Komikon Awards, and many other distinctions. His comics work has been nominated for the National Book Award twice (as co-editor of Abangan: The Best Filipino Comics and as writer of the comic book adaptation of Si Janus Silang at ang Tiyanak ng Tabon). He teaches Creative Writing at the Fine Arts Department of Ateneo de Manila University

MBA and CPA with over 15 years experience in professional services industries including Investment Banking, Consulting and Public Accounting. Expertise includes identification and evaluation of investment opportunities, company and industry research, financial modeling and valuation, strategic planning and advisory, and client management. Ronna earned her Accountancy degree from the Boston College, graduating as a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma Honors Society. She went on to earn her MBA degree from the Columbia University.
Erika is a Director at xchange, an impact-first social enterprise incubator in the Philippines, investing in high potential early-stage social enterprises, while providing full-time mentorship to help them grow and achieve scale. Concurrently, she is the Community Lead for co.lab, the first coworking community in the Philippines and home of a growing tribe of pioneers, start-ups , freelancers, social innovators, and changemakers who connect and collaborate with the rest of the world. Previously, Erika was Managing Director of Hapinoy, a social enterprise working directly with women micro-entrepreneurs to grow their small village shops through training and education, access to capital, and new business opportunities. She also served as Director for Asia Pacific of World Youth Alliance, a UN-affiliated New York-based youth organization focused on development and as a Senior Strategy Manager for k2interactive, focused on the FMCG, banking, real estate and logistics industries.
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, MANILA ANGEL INVESTORS NETWORK
James is the Executive Director of the Manila Angel Investors Network, the largest committed private investors network in the Philippines. With a particular interest in impact investing, he is responsible for sourcing high-potential, early-stage Philippine startups, performing due diligence, mentoring entrepreneurs, and opening networks. The Manila Angel Investors Network (MAIN.PH) was formed in 2016 to support the country’s start up ecosystem by connecting investors with promising early-stage companies.
CO-FOUNDER, PLUG AND PLAY TECH CENTER
Jojo Flores is one of the forefront movers and shakers of the local startup scene in the Philippines. Jojo is the co-founder of Launch Garage, an innovation hub based in Quezon City. He is the co-founder of the co-founder of Silicon Valley-based Plug and Play Tech Center and serves as its Vice President. Mr. Flores is involved in the overall strategic planning and prioritizing of Plug and Play and his immediate focus is on building strategic alliances in the Philippines and other reigns of Southeast Asia. He serves as Vice President for International Operations at American Liquid Packaging Systems (ALPS) and sits as one of its board members.
